BTEC Qualifications at
Preston Vocational Centre

The qualification we are delivering through Edexcel is a BTEC Level 1 Award in Construction. This is on the QCF framework (7 credits, 70 guided learning hours), equivalent to a GCSE grade D-G and can be delivered over 1 academic year, half a day per week (34 weeks).

The progression from this would be a BTEC Level 1 Certificate in Construction (QCF 13 credits), equivalent to two GCSE’s grade D-G. These two qualifications can be delivered from Year 9 onwards. Unlike the B.C.O. there is no on-line test, but on-going assessment of the work produced throughout the duration of the course.

The course we offer on a Tuesday/Wednesday Year 10/11 in partnership with Preston College is a City and Guilds Building Craft Occupations Certificate in Construction. The Course is run over two years for half a day per week as opposed to 1 year and there is an online test at the end. This is equivalent to GCSE (2 E’s and 1 F).
