Community Projects
INTACT Nature Reserve – Between April to September we are delivering eight woodwork sessions to the communities of Ingol and Tanterton. During these sessions, participants are producing bat boxes, hedgehog boxes, bird boxes, two seater benches and picnic tables for INTACT’s nature reserve. This is an informal natural space on a former industrial site that enables the community to connect with nature and discover their city from a new perspective.
Moor Hey School Planters – Our Festival of Building Skills fund has also helped us to expand our community support programme that provides opportunities for young people to learn experientially while undertaking ‘feel good’ work that truly makes a difference. Students from Larches High School went to Moor Hey School to rebuild some old timber planter beds. The area originally had 3 raised timber beds that had rotted away and become unsafe. Our staff and participants dug out foundations, laid footings in a concrete block and built the raised timber beds. Moor Hey School caters for pupils with special educational needs and these planters have given their pupils the opportunity to have horticulture lessons and our participants have gained valuable work experience within an environment that builds social connectedness.
