Festival of Building Skills
In December 2018, the Big Give Christmas Challenge awarded £10,000 to Preston Vocational Centre (PVC), which was then match-funded with help from our partners and the general public to total more than £20,000. The windfall has enabled us to put on a “Festival of Building Skills” throughout 2019.
A year later, we are coming to the end of the project, with 115 beneficiaries having engaged with courses and community projects, including:
· 32 beneficiaries attending ‘Have a Go at Construction’ days
· 6 beneficiaries attending a Community Construction Day for Syrian Refugees
· 72 beneficiaries attending Taster Sessions in Construction
· 6 projects delivered to local communities in Lancashire, with 7 of PVC’s existing beneficiaries from other courses gaining work experience on these projects
Anthony, who attended the joinery sessions, said, “The course was fab and I really enjoyed it, my wife usually does all the DIY, but I am much more confident doing some now too.”
