Let’s Grow Preston - Grange Community Garden is bloomin’ lovely

Community group “Let’s Grow Preston” approached Preston Vocational Centre to see if we could build them an outdoor kitchen area to support the community with local events. PVC were more than happy to oblige and offered to carry out the work at no cost to the charity.

Colleagues and students from the post 16 pre-apprenticeship programme here at PVC spent three days on site in Grange. They built a bespoke concrete kitchen with space for a gas barbecue and a polished concrete worktop, where volunteers could serve up tasty treats. Let’s Grow Preston had also bought a large pizza oven, so we built them an accompanying base and worktop and also sited the oven itself – no mean feat as it weighed half a ton!

The project gave brilliant hands-on experience to the students, as part of the Festival of Buidling skills programme. We plan to return to Grange later in the year to complete a roof structure for the pizza area.
