Are you over 16, not in education, employment or training? If so, you can apply for our Building Futures Pre-Apprenticeship in Construction!

What is a Pre-Apprenticeship?

If you're not quite ready for an apprenticeship or college course, or if you feel undecided about which route to take for a career in construction, then this practical based programme could be for you...

What will I learn on the programme?

You will learn several construction skills, such as, Bricklaying, Plastering, Plumbing, Painting & Decorating, Carpentry & Joinery, Health and Safety in Construction and Building Maintenance. This is learnt through hands on, practical work, in a workshop environment to give you the opportunity to progress onto an apprenticeship, job, further training or volunteering opportunities. 

How long is the programme? 

The duration of the programme is one year. 

What are the start dates?

September and November

What qualification will I get at the end of it?

You will get a Pearson BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Construction (QCF)

How am I assessed? 

It is an ongoing assessment - that means there is no exam. 

What are the entry requirements?

There is no formal entry requirements. However, you will be interviewed and given a short online functional skills assessment to determine the level you're working at.

BTEC Level 1 Qualifications

A BTEC Level 1 Award, Certificate, Extended Certificate and Diploma can be gained in the following units: 

  • Developing Construction Bricklaying Skills
  • Developing Building Maintenance Skills
  • Developing Carpentry Skills
  • Developing Construction Decorating skills
  • Health & Safety and Welfare in Construction
  • Health and Safety in a Construction Environment Post 16
  • Developing Construction Joinery Skills
  • Working as a Team to Move and Handle Resources
  • Developing Construction Painting Skills
  • Developing Construction Plastering Skills
  • Developing Construction Plumbing Skills
  • Producing a Product
  • Producing a Timber Product

CSCS Card training

Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) is one of the most important qualifications within the construction industry.  This card is evidence that you have received sufficient training and qualifications for working on a construction site.  It is not a legal requirement to have a CSCS card, however, the vast majority of companies require you to have one before you can work for them. 

PVC provides bespoke/ tailored-made packages of CSCS training.  If you are a group of six people or more, please contact the centre to discuss your requirements.
