On Thursday 25th June we celebrated the hard work, dedication and achievements of our learners over the past academic year.
Based in the heart of Preston on St Paul’s Road, we provide practical, hands-on training and support for young people across a wide range of construction trades, including plastering, joinery, painting and decorating, plumbing, tiling, brickwork and more. The centre plays a vital role in helping learners gain real-world skills, boost their confidence and take their next step into apprenticeships, further training or employment in the construction industry.
The awards recognised our students' incredible development and success, bringing together families, PVC staff and sponsors for the occasion. During the ceremony, learners received their City & Guilds qualifications. Award winners received a certificate, trophy and gift voucher, recognising their success and helping set them on their way to a rewarding career in construction.
One standout student was Holly Jones, who was named our Student of the Year. Holly's determination, enthusiasm and high-quality work made a lasting impression on tutors and peers alike. She has particularly excelled in Brickwork and truly demonstrates the valuable contribution young people can make in the industry.
Martin Grayston, Centre Manager at Preston Vocational Centre, said:
"On our annual awards evening, I am so proud to welcome students, their families and our sponsors to celebrate what can be achieved when young people are given the right support, encouragement and opportunities.
“Congratulations to all our students who have worked so hard this year and gained a recognised qualification, I am so proud of you all. This year, we have seen outstanding talent and resilience, with students not only showing great progress themselves, but supporting the development of their peers too. Watching their confidence grow over the past year is what makes our work at PVC so rewarding.
“Holly Jones, our Student of the Year, is an outstanding example of what is possible when we support young talent and enthusiasm for the trade. She has excelled in all areas, especially Brickwork, producing work of the highest standard and often taking the initiative to support other students. Holly is not only technically skilled, but mature, reliable and a great role model for others. With her skills and dedication, Holly has a bright future in Brickwork.
“Every year I feel an overwhelming sense of pride when we reflect on how far each learner has come. To anyone wondering whether vocational training can change a young person’s future, our awards night is living proof.
"The success of our students is a testament to the support from our sponsors, local schools and team at PVC. Your continued support helps us inspire the next generation of construction professionals.”
Trevor Hart, Vice Chair of the Board at Preston Vocational Centre, said:
“It was an honour and real pleasure to be part of this year’s awards evening. Evenings like these give us an opportunity to celebrate real effort, determination and progress for each and every young person at PVC.
“The skills, confidence and experiences our learners gain at PVC will open doors for the future. Every student should be incredibly proud of the hard work and determination they have shown.
“Huge credit must go to the PVC team, supporters and sponsors, without their support none of this would be possible.”
