Community Project at Bleasdale Street

Working with our parent company Community Gateway, PVC took part in a community project on Bleasdale Street over the Easter holidays.

The aim of the project was to enable residents of the street to be able to utilise an unused area of the garden that is attached to a series of properties. PVC worked to build and fit three timber sleeper planters to allow the local residents the ability to grow vegetables and interact with each other as a social space. This would support their mental health and a meaningful use of time.

The three planters were fitted with hardcore in the base for drainage and then topped with soil for planting, the planters were measured at 600mm high for ease of access and bolted together with landscaping hex bolts. Around the established trees, the bricks were removed and the area cleared of debris to allow for brick built surrounds to be rebuilt and topped with soil and large rocks for ornamental purposes. Paving slabs were re-used and laid between the planters forming stepping stones and bark was laid in all the other areas to complete the look of the project area.
