Festival of Building Skills continues

In December, through the Big Give Christmas Challenge, PVC were awarded funds of more than £20,000.  The windfall has enabled the centre to put on a “Festival of Building Skills” throughout 2019.

The programme includes “Have a go” taster days for local people, community groups and young people in particular.

The range of opportunities to try out different trades in taster skills building sessions were just one of the factors that led to PVC being shortlisted again for the BIBAs 2019 – Lancashire’s largest and longest running business awards.

It was particularly fitting therefore that when the judges visited the centre last week, the building was a hive of activity, with people from The Stroke Association, INTACT Community Group and Community Gateway all busy learning a variety of trades.  The Stroke Association members tried their hand at dramatic painting techniques and INTACT members were hard at it building nest boxes in the woodwork area.

It was definitely a lot harder than it looks”, said Jane Howard from CG who tried bricklaying. “I didn’t realise how many different techniques were involved. It was worth having a go and I learned that I’m never going to become a brickie, but I’m going to sign up now for the decorating ‘Have A Go’ session – that will be really useful in the house.”

There’s no excuse for being bored in the holidays, with a packed programme of activities on offer too – you can see the schedule here. Click the drop down menu to search for different courses or call us on 01772 880680.
