Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week: Isaac's Journey from PVC to JFN
At Preston Vocational Centre, we are proud to support young people to build bright futures in construction. This National Apprenticeship Week, we are celebrating the achievements of our former student Isaac, who is thriving in his apprenticeship with JFN Integrated Solutions and supporting his local area with his gardening business.
Isaac is now over a year into his apprenticeship with JFN, where he installs and maintains electronic systems to protect homes and businesses. Since starting in 2024, Isaac has embraced both the hands-on work and classroom-style learning, crediting both PVC and the support from JFN for his progress.
During the Summer, in his spare time Isaac developed a gardening business, cutting grass and carrying out garden maintenance. Known for his hard work and eye for detail, Isaac never struggled to find work with many people contacting him for garden support. He also volunteered his time to clear an area of land in his community that was overgrown and unsightly, earning him a letter from the Mayor.
Isaac, Fire Emergency and Security Systems Technician Apprentice at JFN, said:
"Everything I learned at PVC set me up for my apprenticeship and enabled my drive to work hard. The tutors guided me and made me realise my love for manual working. I didn't really like school, but PVC showed me that there are more options out there. If it wasn't for the support from PVC, I wouldn't have got to where I am now at JFN.
"I'm really enjoying my apprenticeship, being able to do a job I enjoy gets me up in the morning and gives me even more motivation to do well.
"I really enjoyed doing the gardening work in the Summer. Doing a thorough job and working hard is important to me and knowing I made a difference clearing the community greenspace made it worthwhile.
Everyone at PVC is so thrilled to hear how well Isaac is doing. Promoting strong values is so important for us and Isaac is a true example of how far respect, talent and hard work can take you.
Martin Grayston, Centre Manager at Preston Vocational Centre, said:
"Isaac is one of the most polite, respectful young people we've seen at PVC. His commitment and hard work really stood out to us and it is no surprise to hear that he has both excelled in his apprenticeship and received recognition from the Mayor for his volunteer work.
"He has since been back to PVC with JFN to observe and undertake work for us, as well as making a guest appearance at our awards night last year as our former Student of the Year. Isaac is a true role model and an excellent example of the springboard PVC can be to young people. He's an asset to JFN and his community."
Louise Stephens, Head of People at JFN, added:
"Isaac is a fabulous employee, a great team player, with an enthusiasm to learn. From the start, we have always had every confidence in Isaac becoming a fabulous engineer and we wish him the best in his career."
