Every year at our annual awards evening, we recognise the hard work and success of our learners over the past year and we recently caught up with our Student of the Year 2026, Holly Jones, who made a lasting impact on her tutors and peers at PVC.
Holly was awarded Student of the Year not only for her technical skills and dedication across all trades, but also her reliability when it came to working hard and supporting other students.
Following her time at Preston Vocational Centre, Holly left with a City and Guilds Level 1 Extended Certificate in Construction Skills and successfully secured an apprenticeship with Leyland Trucks after passing a three-step application process.
During her apprenticeship, Holly will be working towards Level 3 Manufacturing Engineering and Level 3 Engineering Fitter qualifications, through a combination of hands-on training and academic study.
As Holly settles into life at Leyland Trucks, she will meeting new people and undergoing a range of training and development opportunities, helping to broaden her knowledge of health and safety and the trade.
The opportunity to develop such a broad range of skills at PVC has prepared Holly for her apprenticeship. Holly told us:
"I enjoyed getting involved in hands-on training at PVC as well as the classroom learning. The staff were so friendly and easy to work with.
Holly is looking forward to the future and progressing in her apprenticeship, she added:
"Winning student of the year made me incredibly proud and grateful that my hard work has been noticed and that being the best version of myself pays off. I enjoyed being at PVC and noticing the hard work of other students too."
Martin Grayston, Centre Manager at PVC, expressed pride for Holly's success, sharing:
"In the two years Holly was at PVC, she consistently demonstrated commitment and enthusiasm for learning which is reflected in her qualification.
"Holly was a pleasure to teach and support, excelling across all trades and showing a genuine passion for the industry. We are delighted that she has progressed into an apprenticeship with a local company and are confident she will continue to thrive and enjoy a successful career."
